Farm Worker
Close to Home Organics is a family-owned and operated organic mixed-vegetable farm, located in Abbotsford. We have farmed at Glen Valley Organic Farm as shareholders of the Glen Valley Organic Farm Cooperative since 2007. In 2026, our sales will focus on a Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) program. We are seeking an employee who will spend half the season working in the field, and the other half in the packing shed.
This position works from the farm Monday-Thursday, and is expected to be 30-35 hours/week.
While in the field, work takes place outside in all types of conditions, sometimes alone and sometimes in a team setting. While in the packing shed, the work takes place indoors in a team of 5. The work is physically demanding and the weekly routine is regimented. To be successful and enjoy this work, a farm worker is: self-motivated, driven by efficiency, willing to ask for clarification, able to work in a team, and passionate about soil health. The work is not glamorous, but the results are tangible...and delicious.
Examples of tasks include:
Field Tasks
Hoeing, hand weeding, transplanting, harvesting
Irrigation maintenance
Pathway maintenance
Packing Tasks
Set up the packing room on packing days, following an established work flow
Following cleaning protocols to maintain a food-safe work environment
Packing individual orders according to customer preferences
Troubleshooting packing issues
Recording issues to communicate with the lead farmer.
This position pays an hourly wage of $24.25/hour with access to produce ‘seconds’. There are 50 acres to explore during breaks in work. Interested candidates should contact Paige Dampier at: info@glenvalleycsa.com.
